| So after hearing good things about Dead Space, I recently played through both Dead Space 1 and 2 and absolutely loved both games. I've never liked horror games, but Dead Space felt different. I think that's partly because of the sci-fi aspect of it, which makes most things better for me, but also because of the game being different than other horror games I've played.
Granted, the only horror games I've really played are Left for Dead and COD: Zombies (that doesn't really even count), but these were mainly just about sending waves of zombies after you or getting cheap jump scares. Not that Dead Space didn't utilize those, but I felt that it also really drew me in with its dark atmosphere, constant feelings of dread, claustrophobia(in the case of DS1), and a main character losing his sanity(in the case of DS2).
The point of this long winded intro is to explain that I am wondering if there are any other games out there similar to Dead Space that anyone knows of. Obviously Dead Space 3 will be a good option, but I'm curious if something else is similar as well. Like I said I am not well versed in the horror genre so I am hoping someone who is can help me. I've already heard that the movie Event Horizon is similar to Dead Space so I'll check that out, but other movie recommendations are welcome as well. Of course if you simply have discussion about Dead Space to add that is welcome too.

| I've only managed to get half way through both of the Dead Spaces, I hope to return to them some day, and they are well made games.
It's not sci-fi, but it's still a very good horror game, Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It's only $10 on steam and you get a whole lot scares for that price. I haven't completed it, but it's a very atmospheric game. Instead of the jump scares, as you mentioned, it uses the sound or just showing a glimpse of something is there. It's incredibly well done.
As for movies, Pandorum is similar to Dead Space. Sadly, I didn't find it to be that good of movie. That's all I can think of at the moment, I don't know to much about the horror genre as well.
Now for Dead Space 2 discussion! When any of you played it did it always seem at one point your objective was close, but then the door closed and you were forced to take the long way around? In my mind it seemed it kept happening again, and again. Take note this is just around the beginning half of the game, I can't speak for the rest of it.

| I for one adored Pandorum. Event Horizon is great too, kinda Hellraiser in space Other claustrophobic sci-fi movies I can think of is Cargo(not nearly as much of the horror angle but a GREAT movie!) and I swear there was one more that I've forgotten.... Condemened is an excellent horror game if you own a 360, I've heard the sequel isn't nearly as good as it randomly introduces magic or somesuch The first one is awesome though running around the hallways of a dark manor at night something flashes past in front of you and you foolishly waste a shotgun shell... You press Y to open it up and check how many rounds you have left (there's no HUD) and see you only have one more... You hear running footsteps behind you and quickly turn around to see an enemy rush you with a pipe and you jump a bit wasting your last shot on the wall.... now in the midst of panic you have to switch to meele and try to parry-hit combo him down with your shotgun... oh and by the way, you can't pick up ammo and those two shotgun shells you wasted were most likely the only ones you'd find during the entire level, GLHF with those big guys with sledge hammers that two shot you that you'll find up ahead I stopped playing it ~80% through 'cus it was scary >.< picked it up again like 2 months later and finished it Great game :3 Oh and if you like Dead Space check out the animated movie, it's quite good :3 | |

| I'm a veteran of horror games, Doom 3, FEAR, Dead Space, Condemned (which is also pretty good!). They don't really affect me, even with the jumpy bits (whereas they can make one of my friends scream like a little girl).
Amnesia is the closest thing to scary I've experienced in years. From slow dread when you realise you're not alone in the darkness, to the panic you feel when you catch a glimpse of the horror that's stalking you, and resort to hiding in a cupboard. You have to strike a balance between using your limited lamp oil and tinderboxes to give light (which spares your sanity and lights things up) and sneaking around in the dark (with hopes that the creatures won't see you). It also has some awesome Lovecraftian undertones.
The gameplay's probably less action-y than dead space (you have no weapons, since it's mostly a puzzle-solving game) But I found it really good fun nonetheless.

| Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I appreciate it. Amnesia sounds really interesting and I'll for sure take a look at that one. And Owen in answer to your question about Dead Space, I don't really remember that happening. Maybe occasionally but I certainly don't remember it happening a lot. - Quote :

Oh really? I had heard about the movie and watched a preview but it looked pretty bad. But if you recommend it I might watch it.

| Speaking of Dead Space, you can get both of them for $20 USD, on steam's daily summer camp sale. So, if you haven't played them, pick them up! | |
