Lord of the Rings Online

So continuing on from the thread about Vent, Owen and myself have checked out LotRO, as an MMO to play whilst waiting for SW:TOR, so that we starting working together already. It's free to play, and so far has been pretty fun. The Group/Fellowship system works very well, and Owen and I have been testing it out a lot. I think it is an MMO worth checking out if you want to play with other people from the guild in the time between now and SW:TOR's release. We were playing on the server called "Riddermark".

I'm installing this now. It's reckoning a fair while until it finishes downloading (about 12 hours..damnit)

Fine I'll get it too then xD I'm playing either an Elf or Hobbit Minstrel

Downloading now, though not sure when I will get a chance to play.

I can't seem to join the US servers and I can't find an option to change it :/

That's pretty annoying. I'll have a look myself when it's finished (only about 15 minutes to go now - I think the downloader was lying to me before.)

It may be one of these "keep the continental servers separate" MMOs, in which case, us Europeans may just have to create our own branch on the EU servers.

I was looking around at that and it seems that the European verison of LOTRO is handled by code masters not Turbine so you can't go between servers. But if you downloaded the US client instead of the European client it would be able to work I imagine.

I was reading up on the net about this, and it seems that if you download the US client, you are able to play on the US servers regardless of where you are. They don't even have any Australian servers, yet I'm able to play on the US ones.

I don't think we have a choice but to download the European client, it is through the same site as you linked so we will have to be seperate by the looks of things.

Mhm, I'm fairly sure that's the site that I got the client from too.

Think I might of just figured it out. Upper right of the lotro.com has the flags for your country. If you click on America then download it should be the us client. I tested it out by making a euro account then clicking download and the file had EU tags in it so I assume that it works the same both ways.

Yep. Nice work Owen. I'm downloading what I sincerely hope is the US client now.

Yeah I have a lifetime membership I bought for that game when it came out.

I remember playing with some folks from Europe on there so I know it can be done.

Darn I wish I could join you all on there, I was a pro at that game till I got bored with it. I don't have a gaming rig at the moment, my old one went splat!

I am getting one when SWTOR comes out though...don't worry lol

Well, assuming everything works out fine with downloading it and play on the American server, "Riddermark", I suggest that everyone who ends up playing it post their character's name in this thread so that we know who everyone is and can add them as friends. I'll create a list at the top of this thread showing which character belongs to who.

It certainly seems like it's the US client that I have now. It's currently downloading while I'm doing work today. Once that's done I should be able to join the Riddermark server tonight with my shiny new Human Captain. I'll add his name to this post when I get a chance to mess around in character creation.

I may download it too, though I don't have that much time to play. Still if I get the chance.

Yus, Owen had the right idea. It's all to do with the lil flags on the LOTRO site.

I rather enjoyed going through the tutorial with my Captain. He seems to mostly be about close-combat damage with a big sword. And shouting loudly at things.

well well I think I shall join you all sounds rather fun...considering I'm going IA I'll go burglar LOTRO get used to seeing me in stealth role and so on and so forth...sneaking around an backstabbing aahhh fun times any who currently downloading US client should be done soon enough
