SW:TOR update 28/01/11 - Flashpoints overview

Not all that much information really but it is nice to have a little video. All about the flashpoints this week, they should be great fun, though doesn;t say how many people can do it at once but am guessing four.

Flashpoints are one of my most looked forward to features of the game. The fact that teamwork and co-operation are essential to win just makes it that much more interesting.

I'm also really looking forward to the Flashpoints as well. They look like they're offering some rich story, and a hell of a lot of awesome combat. I would also think that for the moment the Flashpoints will only be for four players, but perhaps for a large End Game mission, it will require up to eight. I also like the fact that some of the Flashpoints will be for both sides, and not strictly just one. At least we'll be able to discuss what goes on in those certain Flashpoints to guild members who are on the opposite faction.

Just some things I noted in the video:

1. The combat looks really improved from even a few months ago. Far more synchronised, fluid, and appealing.

2. Naturally, they had to make a high Jedi Master be of the same race as Yoda. KotOR did it, I'm sure many other books and games have done it too. It wouldn't be Star Wars without a bad ass Yoda Jedi

3. I'm glad I finally have heard now what the male Trooper's voice sounds like, and I am definitely not disappointed.

4. The graphics are looking better by the moment. Really a enormously massive improvement from a year or so ago.

5. You dirty Smugglers have a cool looking stealth now

Also, I'd take a wild stab in the dark, and guess that the "Jedi Prisoner" would have been Revan, but then I thought that this Flashpoint is only Mid Game, and Revan would probably only appear in End Game, on Dromund Kaas (where the Fate of Revan is supposedly to be revealed), as a force ghost.

And finally, seeing that the Flashpoint is on a planet called Taral V, and another Flashpoint is located on a "remote moon", do you think that the Flashpoints will take you to places not normally accessible during the game, such as areas in certain planets that aren't actually normal visiting planets, and that you'll only be able to stay in a certain area of the planet for the duration of the Flashpoint?

Well, Master Vandar in KotOR wasn't really hunched over, and his spoke in regular Galactic Basic, rather than Yoda's strange way. Truthfully, unless BioWare get explicit permission from Lucas we're going to learn nothing more. As stated on the Behind the Scenes of Yoda's Species on Wookieepedia:

Nice update, much better then another planet .

And I agree with Typho, the combat and graphics have really been improved.
Looking forward to play through them.

While I agree with you that it would be awesome to finally find out what the species it, where it came from, what role they had in the galaxy, I think that much of the appeal that surrounds Yoda and others of his species is exactly the fact that we know next to nothing about them, and we're always speculating on what they could be, and how impossibly bad ass they are with the force. I think to finally find out the truth would make us disappointed as well as happy. To state an no doubt overly used and cliche quote, "The thrill is in the chase, never in the capture".

If Yoda was a mutated Gungan, any respect for him I once had would go straight down the drain. And all remaining respect I have for Expanded Universe would follow it. I would then proceed to hunt down every one of those filthy things until they were extinct

From what I can tell, the Flashpoints will be the Swtor equivalent of WoWs dungeons and raids, except they will be more story driven, which i'm all for. I'm looking forward to this game more and more.

I kind of agree with Typho about Yoda's speices, though it now seems odd to me we don't know more about them. When it was just Yoda it was fine but with them turning up so often now it is strange no one in the whole galaxy says anything about them.
