(This story is set a year before Lisara joined the GTC)

Chapter 1: The long road home

The wind whipped tiny pebbles of rain across Lisara’s face. The droplets froze her hands, making her shiver as they slid down her wet hair and under the collar of her coat. She walked head down towards the towering complex above her, kicking scattered rubbish that had eddied up on the corner of the street. There was nothing apart from closed down stores and bored up housing on the left side of the street. She was almost home. As soon as she stepped out of the small and dark side street the bright lights of the main street seemed to hit her, almost blinding her for a few moments until she was knocked back into her senses as people pushed past her in the now far more busy street. “I saw you. I saw what you did” the words seemed to haunt her. Awfulness twisted in her stomach, awfulness and anger. She wanted to smash something, hit someone. How could she have done anything?

She took a deep breath, snorting rain up her nose. It reminded her of crying. Turning quickly after a rather harsh push she then made her way down the street, being pushed and shoved by various people. She knew what her mother was going to say to her, with a ripped shirt and the smell of alcohol lingering on her. Mostly true things. The same thing she knew Ashley would say to her after what had happened. There was no way to explain what happened without admitting to something. Alex’s hand on her leg was what Ashley would really care about - that, and that she had let it rest there, even if only for a moment. And she could imagine what he was telling Ashley now – flushed, angry and somewhat drunk – but even a badly managed lie would sound better than the truth. But even if he didn’t go that far, who would believe that he touched her tight on purpose, but ripped her shirt by accident? No, he must have told an entirely different story. So what was Lisara supposed to say when Ashley asked what happened? Ashley thought she was a liar already.

Another gust of rain stung her cheeks, this one bringing another long shiver. Lisara turned of the crowded street with a light sigh as she perk her head up, rain still continuing to pelt across her already frozen checks. Quickly dropping her head again and looking at the steps leading up to the front entrance of her home, digging her hand through her pockets a moment she pulled out her keys and made her way for the door, unlocking it with some difficulty due to her hands being so unsteady. She then crept into the dark hallway of the house. Her eyes hadn’t adjusted from the main street yet and every thing seemed pitch black to her apart from a light shining through the bottom of the living room doorway. Quietly she began to creep up the stairs to the upper hallway then into her bedroom. She guessed Ashley hadn’t beaten her back because her mother wasn’t waiting for her at the door with a more than angry look on her face.

After quietly slinking into her room she stripped out of her cloths and made straight for her bed, not caring if she was soaked, warping a blanket around herself, she folded her legs so that she could get comfortable. After a few minutes Lisara seemed to slide into a deep sleep.

    Chapter 2: The family business.

Lisara rolled in her bed with a groggy feeling and a thumping head ack. slowly she opened her eyes to be greeted by her younger sister Ashley who stood with her arms folded and a rather unhappy look on her face. “Heh….H-hey there sis.” Lisara said with one hand rubbing an eye. “Yeah hello to you to…So want to tell me what the hell happened last night?!” Ashley seemed to speak with a slight raised and serious tone clearly she wasn’t happy with the events that unfolded the night before. “Not now ashy…I’m in no mood to speak let alone try to remember anything” Lisara seemed to speak in a half hearted manner, a mix between the hang over and not being the mood to hear crap from Ashley. “Fine…But don’t expect to get of the hook with this! You’re telling me everything; I’ve already talked to Alex about this.” Ashley said before storming out of the dimly lit room and slamming the door behind her.

After sometime in bed Lisara dragged herself up and got dressed in her usual casual clothes. Lisara then made her way out of the house, avoiding her mother and Ashley who could be heard arguing over something from the outside the front entrance. Lisara quickly shook her head and made her way down the steps and up the street. The street its self seemed soaked with rain from the previous night, a rather unpleasant reminder. The air was filled with that smell you get after rain and although it was an unpleasant remind Lisara loved that smell, she took a deep breath and let the thick air fill her lungs before she arrived at the busy main street again. Lisara turned and began to make her way down it within the thick crowds of people that seemed to be flocking to do their usual morning business.

After some time of travelling through the chocked streets Lisara came to her final stop, a small hanger bay that seemed quiet apart from a few small ships and their crew’s busy working on them. Lisara quickly ran down the steps and made her way over to the only untouched and seemingly empty ship. The ship had a silvery lustre to its hull with ‘X11’ painted on it in a white colour with a red underline that started just before the X and ended at the back of it. Lisara smirked as she made her way to the cargo entrance of the ship, punching a code into the keypad to open up the doors to the well sized cargo hold, at least well sized for a ship of this proportion. Once inside she slid through the tightly stacked cargo crates and other bits and pieces that where ready for transport with ease due to her being quite thin and flexible. After Lisara came through the last wall like structure of cargo she came to the doors of the armoury, slowly peering around she quietly made her way into the chocked armour. Her eyes seemed to flick wall to wall, bench to bench as she eyed up the armour, equipment and weaponry. Slowly Lisara crept over to one of the work benches and grabbed one of the heavier blasters on the table; she flicked it up and aimed it towards the stairs behind her. She then flicked herself around on her heel and aimed at the door, her imagination running wild as if it was loaded and ready to fire. Lisara then felt quite a slap to the back of the head, thinking no one was there when she entered the ship this gave her quite a large shock and without thinking she dropped the gun and spun herself around to see who was behind her.

“I thought I told you to stay out of here Lis?” Her eyes flicked up to the large man who stood in front of her. “And I thought I told you not to creep up on me like that! You know if your trying to give me a heart attack, pretty sure you just done it!” Lisara said with a sigh. “What can I say….Still quiet for an old man, huh? Now why don’t you give me that blaster before you hurt yourself? A little girl like you shouldn’t play with something as dangerous as this” Said the man in a rather sarcastic and mocking tone. “You know I hate you James….Anyway is my Dad around here?” “Yeah he’s upstairs” . Lisara smiled to James once more before she left the blaster back down on the bench and slipped past him, halfway up the stairs she flicked her head over her shoulder and peered at with a smirk upon her lips “Besides James…With what my dad has showed me I could probably handle that big bad blaster all on my own.” She then turned and quickly ran up the stairs, not giving time for James to reply to her cheeky little comment. Once she made the top of the stairs she took a swift left and made her way down the well lit and stanching hallway, heading for the bridge. Lisara stopped just out side the door way to the bridge and leaned on it, watching her father as he tampered with the controls of the ship; clearly he was changing a few things around as he fiddled with the visible wiring.

After a few moments Lisara father stood up, he was a tall man with dark hair with a few tints of gray from his age. He then turned to face Lisara with a smile on his face “Hey pup.” “Hey Dad” Lisara said with a smile on her face before stepping into the cockpit of the ship. “So what brings you down here? Your not trying to steal something from the armoury again are you?” “Heh... Me? Steal? Never” Lisara said the smile still stuck to her face. “Shouldn’t lie to your old man….Besides it runs in the blood.” Her father said with a slight smirk on his face before turning around and starting to work on the wires of the controls again. “But really, why are you here? I doubt you’ve come to see do wiring?” “Well…No I didn’t…I came to ask about when you where going to put me on my first mission.” Lisara said before the smile seemed to drop from her face, leaving it empty and seeming quite serious. “I told you pup…You’re not old enough yet and your mother would kill me if you got hurt.” Lisara’s farther said whilst he continued wiring, quite a bored sound on his voice as if the subject had been gone over countless times before this “Ooh come on Dad! I am old enough, you where doing the exact same thing at this age! You told me yourself.” Lisara said with a slight poute. “Yeah….I was, still doesn’t mean you can.” He said with the continued worn tone “Come on! It doesn’t even have to be that hard or dangerous.” Lisara said still trying to plead with her father. With a light sigh her father turned and looked at her “Fine, I’ll give you a mission if you stop bugging me so much…And it won’t be fun, you’ll hate it.” Lisara gave a large smile as he finally gave into her nagging. “Thanks Dad!” she said with a rather enthusiastic voice. “Yeah you’ll thank me now but I’m telling you, you’re not going to enjoy it.” He said before turning back to wires that sprung out over most of the buttons of the ship.

After a few more minutes of talking Lisara made her way out of the cockpit and quickly down the hallway before heading down the stairs and into the armoury. “Hey James! Guess what! I got a mission! Finally my Dad caved in!” She said the enthusiastic tone still in her voice. “Heh….Nice work kid. I’m sure you’ll love it. But you know it’ll probably be something easy?” James said as she leaned back upon the work bench so he was almost sitting on it, his hand busy stuffing nuts and bolts into a small blue box. “Heh, probably but I don’t really care! I’m going on my first mission!” Lisara said before happily brushing past him and out of the armoury, heading for the make shift shooting range at the end of the armoury. Although it was meant to be space for cargo they always used it as a shoot ranged, even from when they first got the ship. Once Lisara got there she grabbed one of the 3 blasters on a cargo create to her left and loaded it, starting to aim and fire a few shots down range. Lisara seemed quite happy firing down the range and thought to herself “Heh now just to wait till tonight…Maybe I can stick around her and avoid Ashy until I have to do this mission.”

Chapter 3: The first of a few

Later that night Lisara returned to the ship. Geared up and ready for her first mission. She made her way across the silent hanger bay, even when it was empty a heavy metallic smell hung in the air, thick enough it could almost be tasted on the tip of the tongue. Lisara came to the cargo hold ramp; she then took a few steps up it and punched the usual code into the cargo bay door. After making her way across the filled cargo bay she came to the door of the armour, spotting the well equipped and armoured James. “Heh….Going somewhere James?” she said with a slight smirk on her face. “Yeah kid, I’ll be taking care of you on your mission.” He said, sounding slightly stressed whilst sorting through some weapons on two out of the three work benches. “Whoa….Hold on…You’re coming on –my- mission? You’re kidding right?” She said the smirk she had sliding from her face. “Yeah I’m not kidding. I honestly don’t want to be taking care of a little girl like you.” A slight snicker escaped his lips as he called her a little girl; he knew she hated it as well as she did.

Lisara rolled her eyes before making her way past James and up the stairs at the back of the armoury, once she hit the top of the stairs she spotted her father just finishing packaging something up. He then flicked his head up and smiles towards Lisara and slid the package across the table, towards Lisara at the other side of the room. “Here you go pup, your first mission. Information on where it is going is already on that data pad” he motioned towards the data pad beside the small package. Lisara smiled and made her way over to the table at which her father sat. “Great and James is coming along…At least that’s what he told me.” She said as she picked up the package with one hand and slid it into her coat pocket it, what ever it was it was small and light. She then grabbed the data pad and held it in her left hand, letting her fingers dance across the filled screen, her eyes flicking across the screen with a slightly raised eyebrow. “This says it’s going to t-“ Lisara stopped mid-sentence as her father butted in. “I know what it says and its right” He said with a light sigh before flicking his hand towards the stairs again “You best get going kid, don’t want to be late for the meeting.” He said as he sat back in the seat, kicking his feet up onto the table. Lisara turned on her heel and made for the stairs, peering over her shoulder at her father once more before she quickly made her way down into the armoury to run into James again who was fully armoured head to toe and had a blaster rifle in his hands. “Ready to go kid?” He said, hard to read with his armour on. “Yeah sure…Let me just grab a blaster pistol.” She said before peering around the armoury and then grabbing one of the various blasters that lay strewn across the already chocked work bench.

James and Lisara made there way through the cargo hold and out the cargo door into the dark and silent hanger bay. They made there way across the large room quite quickly and headed towards and elevator at the edge of the room. After taking the elevator and making there way into the busy streets again James turned and made his way down the footpath, followed closely by Lisara. James seemed to act like a wall, most people moving out of the way of him or just getting knocked aside, a pleasant change for Lisara who was so used to be nudged and pushed anytime she went anywhere crowded, one of the many reasons she hated crowds. “So uhm….James, Aren’t you a little armoured up for a simple message run?” Lisara said with a raised brow as she peered up at James, trailing behind him slightly. “Well….Better safe than sorry Kido…Besides never know what will happen, right?” James said whilst he continued to push through the crowds.

After about another 10 minutes the two of them came off the main street into another darker, small and much quieter alleyway, as they slowly made there way down James raised the blaster rifle so he held it in both hands, Lisara still followed closely. “Here we are” James said as he turned and rapped on a small metal door, a few moments after the knock a small slit in the door slid open and two eyes peered out at James and Lisara behind him. “What you want!?” said the voice from behind to door as it did James flicked his eyes across so they meet the pair behind the door “We’re here to see your boss. Now let us through.” The voice from behind the door let forth a high cackling sound “Ha you? See boss…No no clearly big idiot does not understand how things work here, eh?” With a light sigh Lisara stepped forward rolling her eyes slightly before her own gaze feel upon the gaze of the man behind the door. “I’m sorry for my friend here; like you said he’s an idiot and doesn’t get how things run here. I’m here with a package to pass on to your employer, it’s from Mr Novar.” Lisara then tilted her head slightly and gave a smile “Oh! You have package! Why you no say! I get door, you wait!” After a few moments and the sound of countless locks coming undone the door slowly open, the man behind it appeared to be gone. Both Lisara and James looked at one and other before entering, as they entered they peered around, the roomed seemed to open up into a red lighted room filled with the chocking smell of smoke and alcohol, as if the place was a cantina, but much more compact. The room was filled with shady looking characters. Slowly the door behind them shut, an extremely small man stood there and gave a slight nod towards them “Boss at table in far corner! You leave package and get out!” Lisara looked back to James and grinned as the ill educated and small man shouted across the room at the two of them.

Slowly the two of them made there way across the crowded room and arrived at the darken tabled which was quiet crowed by what seemed to be the Boss two of his body guards and some barely dressed women. As James was about to speak Lisara butted in before he could get a word out “Hello there...Sir if we could have a moment of your times, we have a package….From Mr Novar” The shady looking character looked at the two of them before he grinned and sat back “Scram ladies….I have business to take care off” With barely a seconds notice the two women where away from the table and made there way off into some other part of the room. “Yes….Mr Novar said he’d be sending someone….But I didn’t think he’d send his best.” He then peered towards James before Lisara stupidly opened her mouth “Yes well I’m good but I’m not ‘the best’…Well at least not yet” At that moment the Boss laughed and shook his head. “Heh I didn’t mean you…Your just a bloody idiotic message girl! Now shut up, the grown ups are talking. How are you James….It’s been awhile are hasn’t it.” James pulled off his helmet and glared towards him “Let’s just do what the hell I came here to do….Business.” Before anyone else managed to get a word out Lisara flicked her head back to the man sat in the chair and slammed both hands down on the table “Why don’t you watch who you’re calling a message girl because if you do it again I won’t hesitate jam my knife in your bloody heart!” A slight laugh escaped the bosses lips…. “You’re quite a fiery one aren’t you? You know that’s how I like my women, where you a red head…You seem like one, surely that blond hair isn’t natural” At that moment Lisara simple glared in return and opened her mouth, more than likely about to yell something at the top of her lungs before James covered her mouth and pulled her back off the table “Shut up and be a good girl, before you get your self hurt Lis.” James then let go of Lisara as he shook his head and then looked towards the boss “Got the credits?” James said as his eyes flicked back to Lisara then to the boss “Of course I do Jamesy boy…..The package?” James gave a nod to Lisara, clearly a sigh to take it out; Lisara then slid the small box out of her jacket pocket and set it onto the table, beside the small mound of glasses that seemed to pile up due to the drinking. “Good…..Good.” The boss then gave a simple clap before the sound of loading guns could be heard, clearly a set up “Of course I have the credits….I just don’t plan on paying them to you or Mr Novar” Lisara glared before she seemed to speak in a raised voice “You double crossing bastard! When my Dad hears about this, you’ll be a dead man!”As Lisara spoke ‘bosses’ face seemed to light up. “Your father? Brilliant just bloody brilliant….Miss Novar I assume, his lovely little daughter.” James then sighed before he took a step away from Lisara and raised his gun at her “Sorry kid….Its just business” Lisara eyes widened before she looked at James, a look of disbelieve on her face “J-James….What are you doing! Why!” Another amused cackle came from the boss as he slowly stood “You see dear James and me here see eye to eye and all we want is a little profit, and I’m sure your daddy would give everything up for his little…What is it he calls her James?” The amused grin still sat on the bosses lips as he spook. “Pup….And your right every, little credit he has for her.” At that moment James sent a slight wink towards Lisara, before he turned to face boss and grinned “Got a drink?” James said a grin across his face. “Of course Jamesy boy! Have mine” At that moment the boss stood and held his drink out to James, offering it to him. James then took the drink and through it back into the bosses face and grabbed his arm, pulling him forward across the table and onto the ground within moments. By the time the guard’s guns where at James he already had his blast rifle to the back of the bosses head. “Like double crossing? Yeah guess what, so do I!” At that moment Lisara pulled out the blaster Pistol, slowing moving closer to the bar, knowing that everything was about to kick off.

James then grabbed the boss by the back of the neck dragging him up onto his feet as he stood, he then dug the blaster rifle into the back of his back before sending a boot into his arse and sent him flying forward, at that moment the guards around the room started to fire at both Lisara and James. Lisara dived over the bar for cover as she did James kicked over one of the tables and pulled in behind it.

    Chapter 4: Bar Fights

Shots whizzed over head and smashed the bottle behind the bar, the fluids inside splashing down onto the bar top and Lisara behind it. Lisara perked her head up for a moment to fire off a few shots, most of them missing apart from one which hit one of the many men in the leg, sending him down to the floor. She was then forced to get back down when the flurry of shots made their way towards the bar top. As she quietly waited for the shots to die down she head a voice shouting from across the room “Lis! Lis! You alright over there!? Lis!”. Lisara perked her head up and shouted back “Yeah….I’m fine, just keep your mind on the damn fight and not me!” at that moment James shot up from cover and began to fire bursts of lasers from his blaster rifle taking down three men before he was forced to stop by a man jumping out at him with a vibro dagger. At that moment James grabbed him by the throat before her even got a chance to swing for him. He then threw him round and put him through a table that was just behind the two of them, this all followed up by a cold shot to the head.

Lisara was attempting to keep James covered the best she could but it wasn’t enough, all though she did take down three of the thugs one survived and hit James four times, twice on the left arm, once on the chest and one of his right shoulder, sending him down to the table with a heavy ‘thud;’. After that it fell silent, just Lisara and the other man left, one on one. Lisara quietly slid under the door to the bar and began to sneak across the room, staying close to cover, she checked on James but he seemed to be out cold, his armor seeming to have absorbed most of the damage. She then sneaked towards the door at that point the thug took a step down from a shadowy spot quietly close to the corner and aimed his pistol for Lisara. Lisara was totally unaware of her impending death until and rather noisy cracking sound. Lisara turned to see the man standing with a leg from a small table stuck into the side of his head, the nail penetrating deeply into his skull. After a few still moments the man hit the ground, more than likely dead.

James slowly stood up from the table, brushed off his hands and looked to Lisara “Lets go kid, we’re done here”. Lisara flicked her head over to James peering at him for a moment “T-thanks…If you did-“ James stopped her mind sentence “Yeah I know, don’t worry about it now lets go”. After that the two headed out off shady little building, no sign of the boss around. Though it seemed James didn’t care to much, as if he just wanted to get back to the ship. “Hey James shouldn’t we try to get the package back I mean, my Dad isn’t going to be happy about it”. James looked to Lisara with a slight smirk “Don’t worry about it Kid, happens more than you’d think, wasn’t a massive deal anyway, just a few thousand credits.”

After some time of walking the two arrived back at the ship, upon entering it they first thing they came to see was Lisara’s Dad. James shook his head slightly a sign that things didn’t go to plan. Lisara turned to look at James as she did he quickly said to her “Listen Kid head up to your quarters, I need to speak with your father” Lisara didn’t seem to happy about it but before she could even open her mouth to argue back with James her dad snapped at her “Lisara, go now.”. She turned to look at him before muttering the word ‘fine’ and making her way through the armory, up the stairs and down the corridor to her quarters.

As Lisara entered she quietly made for her bed and sat on it, setting the pistol and data-pad from her belt onto the table as well, before taking a framed photo of her and her sister, looking down into it, a slight smirk

    Chapter 5: Family

Lisara awoke a few hour later, slowly sitting up with a yawn she peered around her quarters and as did she couldn't help but notice a small note on her bedside table. On closer inspection Lisara read off it "Hey Lis, just a head up your sister is down stairs and well she doesn't seem too happy about how things went - James." Lisara shoke her head with a slight smirk before her slowly pulling herself out of her bed, yawning whilst she takes slight stretch and stands. She then makes her way over to her wardrobe, peering into it for something clean to wear. There wasn't much since she didn't stay in the ship often but there was a simple pair of dark blue jean like trousers a white shirt and a brown leather jacket. Changing into what she had in the wardrobe she simply left her old clothes at her feet before pulling the boots she had on before on and making her way out of her room, locking it as she leaves.

Once out in the hallway Lisara peers towards the cockpit, it seemed quiet enough before she turned and made her way down to the crew lounge and there sat none other than her own sister, with a not to please look held on her face. "Oh, hey Sis....What brings you here? Visiting Da-" Lisara blinks as she is cut of mid-sentence by her sister rather rudely. "I'm here because you almost got yourself killed the other night! You think I didn't hear about what happened! What is it with you and trying to get into Dad's business? You know it's dangerous and that you’re still far too young! I'm telling you that and you’re my older sister!" Ashley's tone seemed someone angry as she stood with her arms folded over her chest, a slight glare in her eyes as she peers to Lisara.

Lisara blinks a moment before she looks back to Ashley "Listen Sis....I know you worry about me and that yes, the business Dad's in may be dangerous but still, it's what I want to do. Besides if I start young it just means I'll be able to handle myself even better in a few years." Lisara smiles slightly still peering to Ashley.

Ashley waits a moment before she makes her way over to Lisara and throws her arms around her in a tight hug. "Just promise me you'll stay safe and won't do anything stupid. Okay?" Ashley mutters whilst nuzzling her head into the shoulder of Lisara somewhat. "Don't worry Sis....I don't plan on going anywhere any time soon and I promise I won't let anything happen to me or you for that matter. Happy?" Lisara smiles wrapping her own arms around Ashley, returning the hug before she peers up to see James leaned back upon one of the walls with a smirk. "Lis...Your Dad wants to see you." James said peering at the two of them. Lisara sighs lightly as she peers down to Ashley "Listen Dad needs to see me so we can talk later, okay? Just come here if I'm not back at the house tonight."
