(The following story is set seven years before joining the GTC)

[I'd love to hear any comments, critique or thoughts you have on anything I write in here, anything from "that sucked", "I liked that part" to more detailed thoughts and suggestions. However, please don't post it in this thread, either send me a PM or talk to me on the chatbox. Hugs in advance! ]

The gun trembled in her hand. “Cute” he said with a voice cold as ice “now put it down”. Vi forced another hand on the gun, desperately trying to hold it steady. Three weeks she had waited for the right opportunity, stealing a blaster from one of the guards had been more difficult than she could have possibly imagined. Three weeks of planning, of hoping. Her finger was on the trigger, the shaking gun pointed at his chest “put it down” Tarquin said again, with the chill of barely contained fury. Vi bit her lips and tried to fight off the tears that slowly filled her eyes, the power cell was fully charged and the safety was off, all she had to do was pull the trigger. A fraction of an inch was all it would take to end it, to end everything. The pit in her stomach grew and tears now blurred her vision her hands no longer trembling as much as shaking. Still she couldn't pull the trigger. “Why?” she whispered, her legs barely held her upright. Was it fear? She wondered, or was it something else? Something deeper, something darker? “Because you're mine” Tarquin whispered in her ear with a voice so soft. Through the tears Vi hadn't even seen him move, she swung around and pushed the gun into his chest. Gently a hand wiped her tears from her cheeks “Mind” he pressed his lips gently against her forehead “and body”. Everything was hopeless “You can't do it because deep down” Tarquin continued “you don't want to” she met his eyes, cold and blue, his smile sharp as knives and equally dangerous. “Now give me the gun” his voice now transformed, dropping it's veil and revealing the anger hidden underneath. Vi shook her head, not in defiance but in despair taking a trembling step backwards “No” the thought echoed hollow in her mind. The gun slipped through her fingers and fell to the floor, she barely heard it hit the floor. “Good girl” he mocked her, his voice deceivingly soft once more. The words echoed in her mind as she fell to her knees, her trembling legs finally giving up, sobbing she heard the door open.

“Everything alright boss?” she heard a voice say. “She managed to get hold of a gun” Tarquin answered with a hint of amusement. Vi put her hands on her knees and felt her tears slowly drip upon them “Who's is it?” Tarquin asked casually, he sounded almost uninterested “Jarez was looking for something earlier” the unknown voice replied with mirrored tone. Vi half hoped the man would stay forever and half wished he'd leave at once. The waiting was almost worse than what she knew would come once the guard had left. “Then you better get it back to him” Tarquin, every word a drop of venom “let him know just how disappointed I am”. She heard the door close, the sound sending another wave of tremors through her body. “Well then my pet” Tarquin whispered gently in her ear “now that we're all alone...”. And then the pain came.

The world was a blur, diffuse colors and dark smudges, she found it quite beautiful. Her body still felt as if it was on fire, burning liquid in her vein, every muscle feeling torn, lungs filled with a thousand needles. She tried to focus on the coppery taste in her mouth and the dancing smudges, she had learned not to fight it. No, fighting never worked, like quicksand she thought, the more you struggle the deeper you sink. The thought amused her, dizzying pain made everything amusing, another surge of sharp pain shocked her body as a faint smile appeared on her face. She failed to hold back a scream, the needle-like pain in her chest burrowed deeper, nearly suffocating her. She couldn't hear the faint cry that left her lips. She couldn't breath, something thick was blocking her throat, someone put a hand behind her back and lifted her up and she coughed. She coughed again and thick red liquid rolled off her lips, dripping in her lap. Liquid, that how you dealt with the pain, like water. She was submerged in it, flailing and screaming would only drown her faster, “be still... float” she remembered.

“...ical injuries..” she heard, the voice distorted and strange “...favorite” it was Tarquin she realized casually. She couldn't hold her thoughts together for more than a few seconds, tidal waves of pain washing the rest away. She tried to center herself again, balancing on the edge of madness as the pain shook her body. “... her” the voice sounded even more distorted this time. She didn't even feel the needle as it broke her skin, she felt was the pain slowly subsiding and everything drifted into darkness.

“I was told there wouldn't be any physical damage” Tarquin's voice dangerously cool. “A-a m-minor malfunction, s-sir” a man stuttered in response “d-didn't anticipate anyone to remain conscious for that l-long on setting f-five”. The man's eyes turned to the armed guard at his side “n-never r-ran it more than t-two minutes in the t-trials” he liked his lips. Tarquin merely glared at him in silence “n-never thought s-someone would last f-for six minutes” his eyes searched Tarquin's, begging him for understanding. “I give you until she wakes up to fix the problem, if it happens again then perhaps we should take it up with Dr Incari” Tarquin said and sighed, such a troublesome day, some interesting developments in the Violet experiment though he admitted and nodded to himself, very interesting. His pet had bared it's fangs for the first time, she had even got her little paws on a weapon. He shook his head, she seemed very insistent on exceeding his expectations. In the corner of his eye he caught a shape and turned around. “Why are you still here?” he hissed with obvious irritation. “I-i'll need the collar” the tech stuttered and took half a step backwards hitting the door.. “Show him to one of the spares” Tarquin signaled to the guard and turned around. He would contemplate the newfound talent of his little pet, maybe it was time to invent a new game? A smile danced on his lips as the door slid shut behind him.

The walls were white. Sometimes Violet found the clean, clear nothingness of it quite peaceful, calming even. Sometimes it almost drove her mad. Tonight, or day, for there was no passage of time in this room, she felt neither. There was still some lingering spiderwebs of pain that burned like fire whenever she moved but what point was there in moving? If you stare at a blank wall for long enough it begins to move, non-existent patterns and shades dance across it's surface, but you know there's nothing there. The white went on forever, infinite in it's pure brightness, a day could have passed, or a month, maybe an hour. And then, finally, the wall parted.

Tarquin emerged from the gaping dark maw. His handmade black clothes coiled and brought shadows to her haven. For it was a haven, in there nothing ever happened. She was curled up in a corner, arms wrapped around her legs, shielding her, it offered little protection and she knew it. He was content just watching her for a moment before he, with ghostlike steps crossed the room that was her sanctuary and kneed before her. With one warm hand under her chin he made her look him in the eyes, his deep blue eyes. “What is your name my pet?” he asked her, a smile playing on his lips. Her lips trembled, she knew that look in his eyes “Violet... master” she whispered, choking on the words. Tarquin reinforced his grip as she tried to avert her eyes “Good girl” he praised her and licked his lips. He rose and brought her with him, their eye still locked inches from each other “I think it's time you to learn a new trick”.

Violet followed her on wobbly legs, she felt like she hadn't taken a single step in days. Violet... the name she'd finally accepted, she didn't have the strength to resist any more. She saw her vision blur and quickly wiped her tears away, strange she thought, she didn't feel sad. They passed several doors on their way to the elevator, all alike with the exact same distance between them. There were no guards accompanying Tarquin this day she noted absently. She matched his pace following a good meter behind him with her hands clasped together and head bowed slightly, just the way he liked it. The doors of the elevator slid open and she stopped, letting her master enter and turn before stepping inside, taking her place at his left side.

“Today is a very special day my pet” Tarquin said as the elevator began it's ascent “Tell me why”.
Not knowing the answer Violet froze, her mind rushing, trying desperately to find the answer. “Today is our one year anniversary my sweet” he helped her and looked down with a smile “For one year you've been mine”.

“Doctor are these really necessary?” Tarquin asked with a smile playing on his lips “she wont escape” his tone was so soft. Violet looked at the hand holding the restraints mounted on the cold metal chair. “Those are to keep her from thrashing should the drugs send her into a seizure” Doctor Incari replied with her usual monotone voice and Violet watched as Tarquin locked the thick leather-like straps around her wrists. The view screen flicked to life above her showing a blank screen of calm blue. Violet tried her best to relax, fixating on the cold metal against her skin and taking deep calm breaths, she knew what was going to happen next. She'd been here before, in fact this was her third time in the chair, her third and final time Tarquin had told her. She tried her very best to ignore the needle as she saw the doctor move at the corner of her eye but she knew closing her eyes where not an option, if she couldn't hold them open they'd make her.

The needle prick made her want to jump but with the help of the restraints she held herself as still as possible. The effects of the drugs where instantaneous, that warm fuzzy feeling, euphoria mixed with revulsion. Images now floated in the ceiling they did not seem restricted to the screen words, more thoughts than sound yet she couldn't understand them.

Tarquin looked at Violet in anticipation, her glazed eyes reflecting the ceiling monitor and he caught himself moving in to close, it was important that nothing else caught her gaze in this stage of the procedure. He tore his eyes from her and looked at Doctor Imria Incari and motion to her office where they could talk without interrupting the almost chanting recording monotonely delivering key words and sentiments to the girl strapped to the metal chair.

“I want you to take her deeper this time” Tarquin said calmly and gazed at Violet through the sound proof glass. Imria looked at him with a puzzled look “Are you unsatisfied with the others?” she asked him and turned her eyes to the datapad in her hand. “No, of course not” Tarquin brushed the question aside “But this one is special” his voice now strangely warm. The white clad doctor took her eyes from the datapad and looked into Tarquin's blue “You realize that the risks of this procedure would increase dramatically if we take her any deeper I assume?” to which Tarquin merely nodded “So if she's is special like you say then why...” an expression flashed across is face that Violet would have recognized as darkness “Just do it” he interrupted with a sharp impatient tone in his voice and turned to the window once more.

Tarquin wasn't quite certain himself why he pushed this one further. The rest of his pets had turned out almost perfectly, the ones that survived that was. Was it curiosity he wondered, he wasn't certain why Violet was the one he'd saved for last either. She'd been one of his first ones so what was so special about her. It wasn't her looks, in that regard Tarquin was as apathetic to her as the others so definitely no perverse interest. She was defiant but not so much that he felt a need to put her in her place, she hadn't tried anything since that day a few months ago when she'd manage to steal a weapon from one of the guards. A faint smile crept upon his face, she wasn't overly clever so it wasn't about proving anything. He leaned against the glass and watched the bloody display on the view screen and smiled, this would be interesting. Doctor Incari was at Violet's side administering another dose of psychotropic drugs and adjusting values and playback options on a control panel. It was a shame she'd need to rest after the procedure for he was eager to play with his born again pet as well as teach her a few new tricks.
